Food Sciences

The study of Food Sciences is a multidisciplinary field that incorporates concepts from chemistry, microbiology, and other physical sciences. Research is used in the field to create and assess new food products as well as to identify the steps involved in their manufacture and presentation. Food sciences also investigates ways to preserve and store various food types while maintaining its quality and safety.

As a discipline, Food Sciences covers subjects like food safety and quality, food processing, animal products for human consumption, food engineering, cereal science and technology, wine microbiology and processing, functional foods, and health.

In addition to learning the basics of food processing, students gain a thorough understanding of the procedures used in the food industry and the ability to assess alternative methods of making food. Additionally, they can determine whether the processes used in food production meet industry and consumer requirements. The majority of food science degrees provide internships at food industry businesses to give students a wealth of practical experience.
