Steps recommended for Visa preparation and filing

The Greek embassy or consulate in your country of residency is where you should submit your completed visa application. Any of the following might apply.

  • The Greek Embassy or Consulate.
  • The Embassy or Consulate of another Schengen country representing Greece.
  • A third-party Visa Service Centre accepts applications on behalf of Greece.

In the absence of any of the three embassies or service centres in your country of residence, you may have to apply at one of the three in a neighbouring country, i.e. Kosovo citizens need to apply in neighbouring Macedonia.

The Greece Citizenship Policy for International Students 2020

After seven years of permanent residency status and spending at least 180 days a year in Greece, people may apply for citizenship (an EU passport).

As was previously said, non-EU nationals will first require a visa to enter Greece. Additionally, if the non-EU national intends to remain in Greece, they must apply for a residency permit at the Greek Consulate in their home country before travelling to Greece.

International students from non-EU nations must, of course, seek a residence permit if they want to stay in Greece longer than 90 days. These Resident Permits are valid for one year. When this time is over, it has to be renewed.

  • When a person has lived locally for five years straight, they can apply for permanent residency or a long-term EU-wide visa. The Greek government only grants permanent resident permits occasionally.
  • In contrast to other nations, getting a long-term residency or work visa while residing in Greece is practically difficult for an overseas graduate of a Greek higher education institution.
  • Graduates must look for possible employment to further their careers in Greece. A work permit can be given if the company hires you and is willing to sponsor and attest to your status as an employee.
  • To complete this, the prospective graduate must return to his country of origin. The procedure will include your personal relationships in Greece; you must have a solid reputation. The employer then suggests your name to the government authorities to provide a work visa if you have a reliable working connection with respectable employers from Greece and are the only qualified applicant for the position.
  • Sometimes the employee must deposit his few months’ salaries as a guarantee to obtain this work permit and work visa and demonstrate the applicant’s sincerity.
  • Successful candidates will get appointment letters in the mail in their country of residence, which will enable them to apply for a work visa through the Greece consulate.

You can apply for a long-term EU-wide residence/work visa after receiving an employment offer in Greece and having worked there for five straight years. After living in Greece for over two years, you can also apply for Greek citizenship.
