The University of Sunderland is located in the North East of England; it was formally established as Sunderland Technical School in 1901. It was the first to offer Sandwich courses which allowed students to work in order to gain some practical experience while pursuing their education. Sunderland Polytechnic was established in 1969 which incorporated the Technical College, the School of Art and the Sunderland Teacher Training College. It was only in 1922 that the institution gained university status.

The University of Sunderland is a global university which is providing an education to thousands of students from around the world. It has four campuses: two in Sunderland, one in London and one in Hong Kong. The two campuses in Sunderland are- The City Campus which is the centre for the Arts and Design courses of the University and the Sir Tom Cowie Campus which is the main centre for Computing and Engineering courses. The London Campus was opened in 2012 which focuses on courses like- Business, Tourism, Nursing, Health, etc. The Hong Kong campus was established in 2017and focuses on disciplines like Business, Finance and Tourism.

The University has a number of academic courses, it has five departments offering a number of short-term, undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in disciplines like arts, languages, natural science, tourism, health, etc. It also has links with organizations like Microsoft and Network+. International students make up about 36% of the student population in the University.

Student Services:

The University of Sunderland provides world-class education to its students and its links to renowned organizations provide them a number of job opportunities. A number of scholarships are available to international students studying in the university. The university has a Students’ Union to help and guide the students regarding any issues they might have. The library has a number of books, manuscripts, journals, etc. which are related to various disciplines.

Accommodation:

Sunderland is a friendly and diverse city to live in and a number of accommodation choices are made available to the students by the university. There are five residence halls for students to live in and free transportation to and from the university is provided. The rent amount also includes services like heating, water, fuel, Wi-Fi, and lighting.

Medical Services:

Maintaining the health and wellbeing of its students is a priority of the University. A Health and Wellbeing service is offered to give students advice and assistance on issues like mental health, drugs, and alcohol, eating disorders, and several others. Counseling services, gyms, and fitness suites are also available on the campus.

Sports facilities:

The University has a number of facilities available for students with skills and interests in sports, there are over 30 clubs to choose from. There are about 20 University sports teams that compete in the British Universities College Sports (BUCS) throughout the year. Some of the sports include basketball, badminton, athletics, cricket, football, and several others.

A number of student-led initiatives and extra-curricular activities are encouraged and students can be a part of whichever that suits their interests.
