University of Goldsmiths

The University of Goldsmiths is a public research university in London that is popular for specializing in the fields of arts, design, humanities, and social sciences. It gives the students a lot of space to discover their ideas and ways of applying what they have learned from Goldsmiths.

The University of Goldsmiths originated in 1792 when the Counter Hill Academy was established in New Cross. In 1843, the Richard Hoggart Building was established after the Royal Naval School purchased the land. The Worshipful Company of Goldsmiths adopted the school and it was revived as the Goldsmiths’ Company’s Technical and Recreative Institute in 1891. Towards the start of the 20th century, the institute was surrendered to the University of London and was renamed Goldsmith College where the contemporary period began.

• Lucian Michael Freud, a British painter, and draughtsman who specialize in figurative art, and is known as one of the leading portraitists of the 20th century. Due to the rise of Nazism, he and his family had to shift to England where he served at sea with the Merchant Navy of Britain during World War II.
• Gary Hume, an English artist whose work was popularly recognized with YBA. He is known for bringing out daily subjects through high-gloss industrial paints. He was a nominee for the Turner Prize in 1996; he was awarded the Jerwood Painting Prize of Great Britain in 1997 and was elected as a Royal Academician in 2001.

Student Services:

The University hosts employment fairs on the fresher’s week where employers, agencies, and administrators come to the campus and students can get a chance to look for part-time jobs to work during their studies as well as during the holidays. Media students can also utilize the media facilities of the university that consist of the equipment as well as the radio and TV studios, photography studios, ENPS facilities, darkrooms, and production rooms.
