University of Bolton

The University of Bolton is a public university in the English city of Bolton. It first opened its doors in 1824 as the Bolton Mechanics Institute. It went through several modifications before it was given the authority to grant research degrees, in 1992 and 1995, respectively. The University status was only awarded to the University, in 2004 by the Privy Council.

The University, which is located in Bolton, between Derby Street and Deane Road, maintains an urban campus with modern facilities. Such facilities include the Senate House, Chancellor Building, Eagle Tower Building, Bolton One, and the Orlando Village residential halls. Design disciplines, research, and consultancy services are housed in the Senate House, while the Chancellor's Building houses the library, student services, and cafes. Art and design, photography, graphics, media studies, special and visual effects, psychology, and academic offices are all situated in the Eagle Tower building. The Bolton One includes facilities for health, science, sports, and research.

Forensic psychology, physiotherapy, psychology, nursing research, health studies, motorsport engineering, automotive engineering, and law are among Bolton's specialties. The University also has close links to industries. The Chartered Institutes, the British Psychological Society, and the Nursing and Midwifery Council accredit most of its courses.

Apart from having foreign relations with international institutions in Singapore, Germany, Greece, China, Malawi, and Malaysia, Bolton also has a center in Ras al-Khaimah, United Arab Emirates.
