About

The University of Auckland was formally established in 1883 as Auckland University College which was a part of the University of New Zealand. It started out with 95 students and four teaching staff and by 1901 it had risen to 156 students. In 1961 the University of New Zealand was dissolved and the University of Auckland was empowered by the University of Auckland Act in 1961. Today, the University of Auckland is the largest university in New Zealand with over 40,000 students enrolled across its five Auckland campuses. The student population includes around 7000 international students coming from more than 120 countries across the world.

The University of Auckland offers a range of undergraduate and postgraduate programs across various disciplines. Education to students is provided within its eight faculties, two research institutes, and other institutes and centers.

The Career Development and Employability Services (CDES) of the University of Auckland is available to assist students and graduates in all aspects of career development. It has a team of experts who will help students realise their potential and develop their capabilities. Students can schedule face-to-face appointments with a Career Development Consultant who will provide career-related advice to them. There is a Job Board where students can browse through available internships, part-time/casual roles, and full-time positions.

MyCDES and MyCDES+ are the online platforms that help students and recent graduates take control of their own careers and employability.

The University of Auckland has over 200 clubs, associations and societies of which students can be a part. The different club categories include Cultural, Sports and Causes. Joining a club is the best way for a student to connect and meet new people on campus. If students are unable to find a club they would like to join on campus they can start their own club.
