Heriot-Watt University is a public research university established in 1821. It is located in Edinburgh, Scotland. The University is well known for its education in Telecom Engineering. The University is globally renowned for its innovative research and impressive employability for its graduates.

The Heriot-Watt University originated in 1821 as the School of Arts of Edinburgh that was considered the world’s first mechanics’ institute. It is the eighth oldest higher education institute in the country and is considered one of the second cluster elite universities. In 1885, the institution was officially known as Heriot-Watt College, which was a technical college and was among the only three institutions that had the authority to recruit professors. The college became a central institution in 1902, and by 1904 it was giving awards to graduating students. Over the years, after attaining university status, it continued its amazing development of constructing student halls, a sports center, and a postgraduate center. It merged with the Scottish College of Textiles in 1998 and opened new campuses in Dubai and Malaysia in 2006 and 2012.

  • Jock Clear: an English senior performance engineer who works for Scuderia Ferrari and is the driver coach of Charles Leclerc. He recently worked at Mercedes as a performance engineer for Lewis Hamilton and Michael Schumacher, and as a race engineer for several racers.
  • Muriel Spark: a British novelist, short story writer, poet, and essayist who started writing poetry and literary criticism somewhere after World War II. She was made the editor of the Poetry Review where she was one of the very few female editors at that time. She was baptized in 1953 but the following year she decided to join the Roman Catholic Church as she wanted to see wanted change her perspectives and see things as a true novelist would.
  • Irvine Welsh: a Scottish novelist, playwright, and short-story writer whose novel Trainspotting was used to make a movie with the same title as the novel. He has come up with plays and screenplays like “Headstart”, “You’ll Have Had Your Hole”, “Blackpool” and has directed many short films. He has published eleven novels and four collections of short stories.
  • Adam Alexander Crozier: a Scottish businessman who was a former chief executive officer of ITV plc, operator of the ITV television network covering most of the UK. In 2000, he became the new chief executive of The Football Association and within three years later, he was the chief executive of the Royal Mail Group, administrating a contentious modernization and circumlocution program.

Student Services:

Edinburgh and its surroundings offer many part-time jobs for students. These include jobs in pubs, shops, restaurants, bars, hotels, as well as other jobs that deal with public relations, marketing, technical venue work, and ticket sales. Accommodation:

Both the campuses of Heriot-Watt University offer accommodation in single-resident rooms with attached bathrooms that are self-catered. Foreign students are expected to bring their health insurance from EMGS on the orientation day to enable the University to decide suitable hospitals or clinics in Edinburgh that will approve of the insurance. The campus does provide a basic medical service that may not be adequate in certain cases, but when it comes to any kind of emergency the Health and Safety Officer can be contacted.

Library Services:

The University has invested about £9 million in its facility of Library and Learning Commons in which it offers over 700 top-notch technology study spaces for both individual and group study. There is also easy access to Wi-Fi, networked PCs, printers, licensed software, online journals and databases, and other resources that will benefit students greatly.

Sports Service:

The Sports Union provides students with a great experience and memorable time during their study at the University. The sports facilities on campus include a gym, squash court, sports halls, pitches, fitness classes, physiotherapy, podiatry, sports massage, and sports science testing services.

There are more than 30 clubs that host a variety of activities for both recreational and competitive events within the university. They also engage in organizing social events outside the University to promote career development.
