Edge Hill University is a public university located in Ormskirk, Lancashire, in England. The University offers quality education and has been ranked as a Gold Tier University by the Teaching Excellence Framework and has also held the title of “University of the Year” awarded by the Times Higher Education in 2014. The courses offered here consist of BA, BSc, and LLB degrees, health and teaching training degrees for undergraduate courses and MBA, MPhil, Ph.D. research degrees, and MRes programs for postgraduate courses. All these courses offer professional development to prepare students for their professional careers.

The University started as the first non-denominational teacher training college for women, with 41 female teachers as a specialist college. It was founded by 7 businessmen and philanthropists from Liverpool in 1882, earlier known as the Edge Hill College. In 1925 the college was controlled by the Lancashire County Council who established a new building to preserve the history and reputation of the college. During World War II the College shifted to Bingley Training College as its campus was being utilized as a military hospital. In 1959, the college finally took in male students and provided them with accommodation in the Lancashire Hall. The following decades embarked on the introduction of different degrees in Field Biology and Habitat Management, Communication and Media, Organization and Management Studies, Computer Science, Creative writing, Law, Marketing, Psychology, and entitled IT as a formal part of daily learning for all students.

  • Danny Howard: a British dance music DJ, producer, and radio presenter who presented ‘BBC Radio 1’s Dance Anthems with Danny Howard’. He completed his studies at Edge Hill University where he took up the sport and exercise science.
  • Jonathan Pryce: a Welsh actor who began his career in the early years of 1970. His theatre work was showcased on the Broadway stage which led to many awards and supporting roles in film and television.
  • Kerry Howard: an English actress who has appeared in comedy sketches for BBC Three and acted as a courtroom clerk in the initial series of Judge Romesh. He completed his undergraduate studies in Drama from Edge Hill University in 2003.
  • Stuart Maconie: an English radio DJ and television presenter, writer, journalist, and critic working for pop music and popular culture. He is now the presenter on BBC Radio 6 Music. He has also published 10 books successfully in his career.

Student Services:

The University hosts sessions that are meant to give students the right information on how to go about searching for part-time work, to write CVs, and prepare for interviews. Gaining as much work experience as possible will be very helpful, and hence working in many jobs from time to time is not such a bad idea if the opportunity comes the way of students. Students can find jobs in many places like bars, restaurants, care services, IT roles, mentoring, tutoring, office work, and retail work.
