De Montfort University is a public university located at the Gateway House in Leicester. It is known for providing skills to prepare students for lucrative careers alongside inviting employers of both national and international status at their graduate fairs. The University originated as the Leicester School of Art back in 1870, and over the years it has merged with colleges like the Leicester College of Art and Technology and Leicester Polytechnic. Most of the contemporary courses offered here were founded in the 19th and early 20th centuries when the School of Art and Leicester Technical School started their training progress to cater to the needs of the locals who were mainly into businesses such as furniture, hosiery, textile, engineering, printing, and bookbinding. The De Montfort University was officially given university status on 26th June 1992.

  • Keeley Emma Donovan - an English journalist and broadcaster currently working with BBC as the weather presenter for television and radio stations of North England.
  • Lewis Walton Moody - a retired English rugby union player who was part of the winning team of the 2003 World Cup. He was also known by the nickname of  “Mad Dog” because of his passion for the game as well as his competitive nature. He has won five premiership medals in his career and in 2012 but had to retire from the sport due to a knee injury, which did not permit him to continue any further.
  • Michael Edwards - an English ski-jumper and Olympian who represented Great Britain in the Olympic ski-jumping, and held on to the record for 13 years. He also held another record for jumping over 6 buses in speed skiing.
  • Akram Hossain Khan - an English dancer and choreographer from Bangladesh with a background in classical kathak training and contemporary dance. He has won many awards including international, national, and doctorates, from the year 2000 until 2016, for his outstanding performance and choreography skills in the UK.

Student Services:

Students can find part-time jobs that will support them financially during their studies. There is a job agency for students known as Unitemps that is available on-campus. Jobs through Unitemps can help students pay off their living expenses. Hence, students are encouraged to register with Unitemps to be able to apply for jobs anywhere within their reach. Students can also contact or visit the career service in the university when they need help in writing CVs, cover letters, preparing for interviews, and more.

Accommodation:

The accommodation provided in this University is very modern and within close distance to both the campus and the city centre. There are 10 options of self-catered halls of residence with prices ranging from £99 – £185.61 to choose from.

Medical Services:

The University has incorporated a Student Health Centre de Montfort Surgery to offer students medical services when they require it. Students can register at the surgery to be eligible for a wide range of NHS benefits in the UK. Students who are not entitled to the NHS are advised to get health insurance before leaving for the UK.
