Visa Requirements

International students can study and train in Spain for over three months with a student visa. An international student may apply for various sorts of student visas. Before obtaining a student visa, the student must show evidence of being accepted into a course.

Visa Application Process

There are three different types of student visas available, depending on the length of the course:

  • Student Permit of fewer than three months: Students from countries without visa requirements who wish to study or train in the country for less than 90 days are granted a student permit valid for less than three months. Students from nations that do not require visas must apply for a Schengen Visa.
  • Short-Term Student Visa for 3 – 6 months: The maximum course length for a short-term student visa, which is granted for 3 to 6 months, is 180 days. You cannot renew this visa.
  • Long-Term Student Visa: With this visa, students can enrol in courses lasting more than six months. Students must apply for a Student Residence Card and their student visa application.

Documentation

To apply for a student visa, the student needs to have the following documents:

  • Two completed Schengen Visa application forms
  • A passport that is valid for the intended period of stay
  • Two passport size photos
  • ID Card
  • Current Student ID
  • Letter of acceptance from the Spanish university or a course provider

  • Health insurance that is valid for the whole period of your studies

Student Visas with Dependants

The student's spouse and children are applying for this visa. This visa allows the main applicant, a student, to stay in Spain with their spouse and children as dependents for longer than six months. The student will have to show evidence that they can support himself and any dependents while having enough money to cover the tuition fees of different institutions.

The dependents cannot work in Spain while there and must register for their TIE at the nearest Oficina de Extranjeros.
