Accommodation

International students need to research their accommodation options before travelling to Canada. The country is a student-friendly destination with a wide variety of accommodation options. However, finding suitable accommodation on a budget and close to the university can be challenging if students doesn't know where to start. The average rent for accommodation ranges from CAD 700 (INR 40,583) to CAD 1,000 (INR 57,992) per month for a room in a shared apartment. For students interested in private accommodation, it will cost approximately CAD 1,200 (INR 69,591) per month.

Some of the housing options available for international students in Canada include:

  • On-campus housing – These are accommodation options inside a college, school or university campus. They include dormitories, residence halls, townhouses and apartments offered to students.
  • Homestays – Canadian families offer students well-furnished spaces with all the required utilities in their homes at a reasonable cost.
  • Private rentals – Apartments that are given on rent to international students, often after paying a security deposit. The apartments can be private or shared rooms, depending on how the students want to divide the rent.
  • Temporary accommodation – This type of accommodation is available to students when they first arrive in the country, including hotels, Bed & Breakfasts or Youth hostels. Once students set their priorities, it will be easier for them to find settlements and housing.
