Nelson Marlborough Institute of Technology

Nelson Marlborough Institute of Technology (NMIT) is a government-owned Institute located in the northern South Island of New Zealand. It was established in 1905 as the Nelson Technical School initially offering courses in Cookery, Engineering, Woodwork, Plumbing, and Engineering. The Technical School merged with Nelson College in 1930, and Nelson Polytechnic officially became a technical institute in 1971.

NMIT has two campuses- Nelson Campus and Marlborough Campus located in Nelson and Blenheim. Each campus offers different programs ranging from certificate to postgraduate courses. The degrees offered by the Institute are officially recognised by the New Zealand Qualifications Authority. NMIT offers over 100 qualifications in various disciplines like Arts, Engineering, Business, Social Sciences, Writing, and Tourism.

Since the 1990s Nelson Marlborough Institute of Technology has attracted a significant number of international students from across the globe. NMIT has offshore partnerships with various institutions in Brazil, Germany, France, Japan, the USA, Spain, and many more countries. Today, NMIT is one of the largest providers of education and training in the Southern region of New Zealand.
